My wife and I made the hike to Ouzel Falls for the time in July this year. It is definitely one of our favorites now. It's an easy hike with lots of shady woods and running water, but this is the payoff at the end. It was my favorite shot of the trip and reminded us of the old Coors ads. Shortly afterwards the skies clouded up. If you plan to take pictures there do it early. Keep the pictures coming! Deserted Village is three miles from the lesser-used North Fork trailhead. Although the trail starts in Roosevelt National Forest, the trail enters RMNP after four miles of hiking. All that is left of the hunting lodge built by the Earl of Dunraven is one structure, which is in pretty bad shape. Still it was interesting to ponder the dysentery epidemic, which put the resort out of business in 1909. We didn't drink the water. This photo of Glacier Creek was taken Sept. 7th, 2003 from the trail a short way above Alberta Falls. I was near the end of a long (12mile), wet day of hiking. It was the 1st of 5 days I had in RMNP and I wasn't about to waste a single one. The aspens were all still green except for a few stray branches here and there. I thought these would make a nice frame for a beautiful scene. There were few photo opportunities this day because of the low clouds and rain.Submitted by David Fierbaugh [Medium Size] [Full Size (973 x 1024, 375kB)] [Add comments about this photo] [View comments] |
