No doubt countless people have taken pictures at Sprague Lake. I took this sunrise pic facing Hallett Peak about 6-7am, July 8, 2006. It was shot with a Nikon N75 SLR, 28-80zoom @ 28mm, Fuji 400 film. The morning was partly cloudy, when a gap in the clouds seemed to paint a sunlit stripe across the peaks. Has anyone visited these lakes? We took the Chapin trailhead at the top of Fall River road. Hiked a ways up until the trail ran out and headed south across the tundra still at the base of Mount Chapin. Thought we could look down at the road below. View is looking south at Lava Cliffs not far from the visitor center. I'd say it's the perfect short hike. One tenth mile or so, great view for a bottle of wine and a block of aged cheddar. Sprague Lake at sunrise, taken from a different angle than the typical Hallett Peak/Flattop Mountain view. I love the patterns and reflections of the light in the water in this shot, and the stark silhouette of the mountains and trees.
