The Loch - This picture is from a hike that my brother and I did in the middle of Aug 2001. We made it to 7 lakes and 2 waterfalls in a day hike. The Loch was the 5th lake of the hike. I had heard how great it was and I wasn't disappointed. The lake is so much bigger than I expected and you are right along the lake so there are great views almost constantly. Dream Lake may be the most photographed lake in the park and is definitely one of the 'must do' hikes in the park. Hikers start from Bear Lake and follow a trail that is paved (!) to Nymph Lake and then continue to Dream Lake. The distance to Dream Lake is one mile and most hikers continue for another mile to Emerald Lake. Beyond Emerald Lake the going gets tough but hikers willing to scramble and bleed a bit can reach the foot of Tyndall Glacier at the end of the gorge. From Dream Lake there are great views of Hallett Peak and with a bit of luck (and binoculars!) one may spot climbers on the north side of Hallett, which is considered to be some of the best climbing in the park!Submitted by Ian Kiming and Camilla Bacher [Medium Size] [Full Size (768 x 1024, 168kB)] [Add comments about this photo] [View comments] |
